Best Capsule Wardrobe Sweaters:
1. Striped Sweater
If you don’t already own a classic striped sweater then you need one!
Stripes are a true classic capsule wardrobe staple in any way shape or form making a striped sweater the perfect Fall and Winter capsule wardrobe sweater to own.
The striped pattern is not only ideal for any capsule but also lends to its extreme versatility when creating outfits for chilly weather.
This one pictured above adds a little color to an outfit which makes it super cute and even trendy at the moment.
I especially love the teal-colored stripe that runs through it.
The sweater pictured is from Bohme which is a really cute trendy online shop that I recently stumbled on and am so glad that I did! They have some really unique pieces which drew my attention.
Another great option to get this striped sweater look would be this almost identical striped sweater from Amazon.
I styled this striped sweater with cream-colored jeans for an all-neutral look.
However, I’d also style it with distressed straight-leg denim jeans or dark blue flare denim jeans for a more professional work-appropriate look.
The cream-colored jeans I styled here are from Carly Jean Los Angeles. They are her signature Chrissy Jeans in the color sea salt which are ah-mazing!
So soft and stretchy! If you purchase them make sure to size down because the stretch is real!

2. Open Cable Knit Cardigan
I think most of us go crazy for any chestnut/rust-like color sweaters this time of year. The color just literally screams Fall and has that nice warm cozy feeling to it! I personally go crazy over it!
This one I love particularly simply because not only is the color gorgeous but because it’s an open cardigan and literally can be worn any time of the year.
It’s not too heavy or thick which would make it ideal to wear with some white denim shorts and sandals in the warmer seasons.
Its versatility makes it the perfect addition to your capsule wardrobe sweater collection.
The one pictured here is from one of my absolute favorite small online shops, Carly Jean Los Angeles (sold out). I have been following her brand on Instagram for at least 5 years now and am a die-hard fan!
The quality of her clothing is on point and the brand is seriously capsule wardrobe dreams. Definitely check them out!
Oh and here is a very similar open-front cardigan on Amazon.

3. Oversized Textured Sweater
Oversized sweaters are not only a very trendy look these days but they also happen to be a very comfortable look.
It’s a go-to look when you’re just not feeling like putting much effort into an outfit but will absolutely still look like you did put effort into that outfit!
I’m all about the layers this time of year not only to have that layer underneath in case it gets too hot (I live in Texas so it’s a must) but also because it looks good!
Adding a cute striped tank or a neutral tank as I did in the pictured look above or a lace bralette or a simple white tee peeking out is an ideal way to create a stylish layered look.
All in all, it is a great way to use some of your great basic pieces with those oversized cozy sweaters.
I really love the look of this CJLA’s Auden sweater (sold out) that I used to style this look. It isn’t too thick and has a great neutral oversized look with a little bit of texture to it.
Here is a similar sweater option from Amazon.
Other ways to style it would be over one of your Summertime mini or maxi dresses with some knee-high boots or just with a pair of distressed jeans.

4. Cable Knit Sweater
Of course, we cannot forget the basic cable knit sweater. I particularly love this look in a shorter sweater simply because I feel an oversized cable knit would feel too thick and chunky on myself personally.
The one I styled here is another great option from Carly Jean (sold out; similar sweater) that offers the perfect size, fit, and color! And because it is a bit shorter it is great with a front tuck, a belt, and some flared jeans!
I live for the perfect flare jeans to style for work on a chilly day.
And can we talk about this blazer for a minute? OMG, it has all the Fall vibes to it with this beautiful checkered print! I think a blazer is definitely the way to go with a chunkier cable knit sweater since blazers are not thick.
This allows you to not have that bulky look but still look really classy and sharp!
The one pictured is from Vici but is sold out. I found this amazing similar blazer on Mango.
Finally, pull the entire look together with your favorite Fall boots and you are cute and ready in no time!

Accessories: Apple watch band (Amazon); Earrings: five and two (discontinued); Sunglasses are Amazon.
5. Button-Down Sweater
Another great option is the button-down v-neck sweater. This style is everywhere this year and I am so here for it!
I absolutely love styling this as a layered look in case it gets warmer it’s easy to take off and tie around your waist or simply show off that cute shirt underneath.
Here I used a black fitted ribbed shirt with a lettuce neck and hemline which add to the outfit.
The sweater pictured here is from Bohme and it comes in some other great neutral colors as well.
I personally love a button-down style with a monochromatic all-black look as I styled it here.
The light oatmeal color of the sweater breaks up the all-black look but still offers a subtle neutral tone to the outfit.
The large tortoise-like buttons add another beautiful neutral color that pairs really well with the brown stitching on the boots.
The jeans are a cropped straight leg style with a slight distressing at the knee. They’re also distressed at the hemline.
The cropped look allows the boots to shine and as they should because how cute are these?
This type of sweater also styles really well with a long flowy printed skirt for a more feminine look.

6. Ribbed Sweater
A long-time favorite for me has been a ribbed sweater. Just a ribbed material in anything really is a material that I always love and works for me!
This particular ribbed sweater from Bohme also has that trendy washed vintage look to it. I particularly loved it in this charcoal color that I knew would pair so well with so many things in my capsule.
This sweater from Amazon is another option that also offers the perfect fitted look for this outfit.
Here I styled it a couple of ways. I added softer colors to break up the look a bit.
I love it with these cream-colored distressed cropped jeans and some white converse for running errands.
The versatility of this sweater is everything! As styled in the pic above I added some dark wash flare jeans and light-colored boots for a daytime professional look.
